Dear Mr. Vandersteen,
During the week of Nov 16-20
th
many of the Kohler workers who are striking jumping out in front of cars on Highland Dr.
and Greenfield Dr.
Over the week I visited your wonderful city I observed this happening daily while
driving from my hotel past the plant to the location of the office I was visiting. Strikers are
standing in the street, using vehicles they drive slowly to impede traffic and driving around
to hotels at night honking horns in the parking lots to awaken hotel guests. This slowed my
trip by 20 minutes going to and from the office and I was awakened several times at night
from the horns blowing in the parking lot. This was still happening on the 18
th
and 19
th
after
the injunctions were signed to halt these activities (Romell 2015).
With the traffic blocking going on I am worried that someone will be hurt by a vehicle
that does not see a striker or cannot stop for them. I would in no way want to halt or stop
any member from exercising their right to strike for what they feel they are due. I am also
sure that nobody wants to see anyone injured or even killed from people blocking the traffic
lanes in a dangerous way. Also with holiday travelers visiting your city the last thing
anyone wants is to be awakened at night by horns blowing in the lots.
I am sure this is not normal for visitors to your city, aside of this I had a pleasant trip
and enjoyed the area while I visited. I think that to preserve the experience of other visitors
and residents the strikers must be kept out of the traffic lanes. This could be done using a
police presents but it would take a large number of officers to control this area. . I believe
this could be controlled by placing the parade barriers you use for holiday parades up along
the curb in this area and using a small police presence.
Sincerely,
B
